Now more than ever, setting aside time to show yourself love is so so essential. Sure we know we need to practice Self Care but let's face it even at home the days, hours and minutes seem to fly by so fast leaving us little to no time to focus on ourselves. You may spend the majority of your time working, taking care of the kids (two words virtual learning), attending to your significant other, cooking, cleaning and checking all the things off your never ending to-do list. Next thing you know it's Monday and time to do it all over again.
Well what if I told you that there are simple and effective ways you can add self care to your schedule EVERY SINGLE WEEK, heck even everyday, despite all you have going on? Yep you heard right, carving out time for yourself is more than doable and I'm here to tell you how but first let's chat about why I started my self care routine.
I was burnout all the time!
Before I started setting aside time out for myself I was a HOT MESS ya'll. My sleep patterns were all over the place, my eating was a wreck, I couldn't focus to save my life and I neglected hanging out with friends and family. I remember constantly getting debilitating headaches and having tummy issues due to how much stress I was under, sad I know. I didn't know what it even looked or felt like to take care of ME! When I wasn't running my business (which includes planning, engaging, pitching, etc.), I was either babysitting one of my former students to help their parents out, running errands for my grandma or lending a helping to a friend. I'm naturally a giving individual so those things didn't seem like they were bad, that's because they're not, but the problem was I was giving all of my time and energy to everyone around me which left me feeling depleted all the time!
About a year ago I had enough of feeling overwhelmed and decided to take my time back and let me tell you it's one of the BEST decisions I have ever made in my adult life! Yes I'm still giving myself to others since it's something I adore but I make sure to take care of myself on a daily basis first and foremost. That way I have more energy to give to those I care about. So let's dive in to my 5 favorite ways I love to implement self care in my home.
What girl doesn't love a good facial! It's so calming and there are so many different ways you can incorporate them into your weekly routine. Personally I'm a huge fan of sheet masks. They're super easy to apply and you can literally find the everywhere. There's also peel off masks, clay masks, charcoal masks, homemade masks (I've heard applying avocado and coconut oil does wonders) the preference is yours. When applying a mask, typically you have to keep it on for 10-20 minutes so really take that time to sit, do absolutely nothing and just enjoy that moment!
2. Recite Affirmations
Yes good ol' affirmations is one of the easiest ways you can practice self care. You can write an affirmation down first thing in the morning to recite throughout the day; write a few on sticky notes and post it around the house, in your car or at your work place, or even listen to them on a podcast or YouTube on the go. I find that when I start every single day with ONE positive affirmation my mind is more calm and my day just seems to be more smooth. When choosing your affirmations go for ones that really apply to your life. It could be a mindset you need to shift, something you want to manifest or any other specific area of your life.
3. Give yourself a mani pedi
I don't know about you but I feel like a brand new woman after applying a fresh new coat of polish...as I look at my chipped nails that needs to be done lol. Like facials there are countless options for you to choose from. I real popular thing right now is press on nails. I've tried a few recently and I was very impressed. The particular brand that I tried looked like the real deal. another alternative is peel a stick polish. They come on a sheet, you apply them to your nail bed, file them down and voila new nails in minutes with no dry time. And then of course there's the old fashioned way which I tend to do since it allows me to spend more time on me.
SN: Try watching your favorite TV show or listening to an audio book while doing your nails for a little added relaxation.
Yoga is by far MY FAVORITE and I do mean favorite way to spend time with myself. I've only be practicing for about 4 months but it has quickly turned into my favorite part of my day! There are so many benefits to yoga from better sleep to a boost in your immune system and the best part is all you need is YouTube or a yoga app to get your workout in. If you do not try any of the other suggestions here I highly recommend you give yoga a try! You won't regret it!
5. Defusers and Candles
Last but not least is diffusing or lighting a candle. I just love my defuser and the smell good oils. I turn my defuser on at night with my lavender essential oil to help me wind down at night and currently I've been using a citrus scent in the morning to wake me up. I also like using my defuser or lighting a candle while meditating, reading the bible, doing yoga or just relaxing. Did you know that there are also oils for colds, headaches and stress? This bad boy or shall I say bad good has so many benefits so it is a must.
